I loved the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, an absolute banging white that has ripe citrus and honeyed, spicy nuances in its medium-bodied, wonderfully pure, focused profile. A blend of 44% Roussanne, 41% Grenache Blanc, 11% Clairette, and 4% Bourboulenc, it shows the softer style of the vintage and brings plenty of fruit while staying balanced, focused, and light on its feet. It’s a brilliant wine, and I suspect it will age gracefully over the coming decade or more.
Aromas of ripe orchard fruits, lemon oil, peanuts, pear and clove introduce the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc from Château la Nerthe. it is a medium to full-bodied, enrobing and layered white wine that’s vibrant and fresh on the mid-palate and concludes with a long, delicate finish.
Vivid spring blossom, yellow apple, cedar, ripe pear and lemon flesh present the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc. Medium- to full-bodied and kept in check by bright acidity, the 2022 is a sapid and expressive white Châteauneuf that can be enjoyed over the next four years.
The new wood has been pared back in the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Clos de Beauvenir, a 70-30 blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc aged predominantly in demi-muids, with 15% going into new barriques. Hints of oaky spice accent pineapple and lime notes on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is rich and silky in texture, even a trifle phenolic on the finish in its youth. This should be even better in another year or two.
A well-balanced, supple and aromatic blend of 44% roussanne, 41% grenache blanc, 11% clairette and 4% bourboulenc. This shows notes of dried lemons, spiced apples, blanched almonds, honeysuckle and sweet spices. It’s medium-bodied with a delicate character. Silky and poised with a flavorful finish.
