Straightforward and appealing for the lively red currant, dusty herb and licorice flavors, which finish with medium-grained tannins.
Earthy, toasty aromas lead to good, rich black fruit and dark chocolate flavors in this full-bodied and solidly tannic wine. Affordably priced, and deeper and more structured than many other Merlots, this wine reverberates more like a Cabernet.
Youthful and tight, ripe damson and red cherry fruit. Good complexity with beautiful balance and an earthy, mineral finish.
This dark ruby colored “Anniversary Edition” Merlot from St. Francis is very good. It opens with a graphite and gentle pomegranate bouquet with hints of boysenberry and moist pipe tobacco. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and fresh. The flavor profile is graphite, dark chocolate, and red currant blend with notes of green tea and craisin. I also detected hints of pomegranate and a dash of black pepper. The finish is dry, and its well managed moderate dusty tannins are nicely prolonged.
