With Volnay to the south and Beaune to the north, Pommard is situated on an east- and southeast-facing slope between 240 and 380 meters above sea level with a high-clay, calcareous soil. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, then undergo fermentation. After a long maceration, a proportion of the wine is set to age in French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
