The Clos Windsbuhl is located on a small 7ha little hill that turns from the east to the south, on relatively steep slopes, above the village of Hunawihr. Right against the forest, it dominates all other vineyards and offer a fabulous view on the Alsace valley floor. The Muschelkalk limestone is rich in seashells and is also described as Dolomitic limestone, particularly rich in magnesium. A recent very interesting tasting of minerals including magnesium was highly instructive in understanding why all the Windsbuhl wines have a natural elegance and bright acid driven structure. Obviously, the later ripening climate there can explain higher acidity, but the soil and its mineral composition must be responsible for that bright and vibrant structure. In 2022, the Windsbuhl enjoyed perfect ripening conditions. The cooling effect of the altitude and nearby forest compensated the warmth of the vintage. The Gewurztraminer ripened very well to a classic sweet balance. The grapes were harvested very healthy.
