Beaune Avaux is one of 36 Premier Cru vineyards in the Beaune appellation. The high number of Premiers Crus is accounted for by the situation of most of the Beaune vineyards on a slope, which gives them superior sun exposure. The soil is clay and chalk with surface alluvium—well drained and easy to heat. Pinot Noir grapes for this wine are destemmed and fermented for three to four weeks, then matured in oak barrels for about 18 months.
Elegant and medium-full in body, this wine shows red fruit, spice and vanilla aromas and flavors. It will develop in the bottle for 12 to 15 years.
