Josh Hoover began his role as Assistant Winemaker at Sequoia Grove in 2023. A California native, Josh worked in the hospitality industry for more than a decade during which he developed a deep love and passion for wine and the culture around it. His curiosity and drive took him next to Washington State where Josh learned more about wines from different regions. Ultimately, Josh was driven to return to California by a desire to make world class Cabernet.
His first harvest was with a family-owned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producer in Sonoma using old world techniques such as native fermentations. This harvest allowed Josh to experience all aspects of the winemaking process, furthering his interest in the art. This led Josh next to UC Davis to pursue a degree in Viticulture and Enology. After graduating, Josh interned at Cakebread Cellars before landing a job in Oakville making ultra-premium Napa Valley Cabernet. Outside of winemaking, Josh enjoys spending time with his kids, cooking, gardening, and travel.
