In 2021, we added 1ha of Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg from Katzenthal. These old vines were brought to the domaine by the current vineyard manager Jérôme Noll. This Grand Cru is located on different hills with various facing from south-east to south exposures on very steep slopes for some of them. The soil is similar to Brand and Sommerberg: biotite granite (two micas). Wineck-Schlossberg is not at the end of a deep valley like Brand so the micro climate is perhaps more extreme between cold and warm periods the whole year long. However, the proximity of the mountains ensures cooler evening temperatures and less risks of sunburns. In 2022, the grapes were in their second year of biological and b-d conversion. It really is a beautiful little Grand Cru, but unfortunately it was hit by a serious hailstorm middle of August. We lost a lot of grapes but what remained produced a beautiful wine. The fermentation was relatively fast compared to other vineyards and the wine was dry well before summer 2023.

Harvest Note
2022 avoided the severe frost conditions of the prior year and the vines grew rapidly in the Spring months. The dry and hot conditions kept disease to a minimum but adversely affected flowering and caused a significant reduction in the overall crop size. A few late storms brought needed moisture but also some isolated hail damage. Harvest occured from August 22 to September 20 according to each vineyard's situation.
Tasting Note
Yellow pale intense gold colour. Expressive ripe nose showing wet stones, mineral aromas and Long lasting white fruits. The palate reveals a superb tense structure, dry palate, crystalline and lacy texture. Granitic vineyards are demanding but eventually the reward can be great. Dry finish with a ripe acidity. The 2022 vintage is a great introduction for us to this vineyard (except for the crop loss obviously). There is a saline aftertaste enhanced by complex tannins. A fabulous addition to our portfolio.
